These carry the words people actually search for.
We register it, point it where it needs to go, and set up a proper hello@yourbusiness.co.uk that actually lands in inboxes — SPF, DKIM and DMARC configured properly. Includes a year of .co.uk registration.
Or register it yourself anywhere. We’d rather you owned it than didn’t.
Twenty-five years of watching people get this right and wrong. Five rules that actually matter.
For a UK business serving UK customers, .co.uk outperforms .com for local trust and costs less. If both are free, take both and point one at the other — about twenty-five pounds a year for the pair, and it stops a competitor sitting on your name.
If you have to spell it, it’s wrong. Hyphens, deliberate misspellings and numbers all fail this test. The domain a customer types from memory is the only one that matters. We learned this expensively: our own domain has a hyphen in it, and we spell it out on every single call.
If your business name is taken, southendplumbing.co.uk is a better fallback than a made-up word. It tells a stranger what you do and where, and it happens to contain the words people search for. That is not a coincidence — it is the whole point.
Your domain should be in your name, with your email as the registrant contact. Agencies that register domains under their own account are creating leverage for the day you want to leave. Ask any provider — us included — one question: if I walk away tomorrow, do I keep it? If the answer isn’t an immediate yes, walk away today.
Most domains are lost by accident: the renewal notice goes to an address nobody reads. Turn auto-renew on, and put the renewal in a calendar you actually look at. A lapsed domain can be bought by anyone within weeks, and getting it back is expensive if it’s possible at all.
We query RDAP — the registries’ own public lookup service, the successor to WHOIS. For .uk names that’s Nominet, the official UK registry; for .com and .net it’s Verisign. That means a result here reflects the actual register, not a reseller’s guess or an inventory of names somebody is trying to sell you.
What it cannot tell you: whether a name infringes somebody’s trade mark, whether it’s been penalised by Google in a past life, or whether a similar name will confuse your customers. Availability is not the same as advisability. Check the trade mark register before you print it on a van.
We don’t store what you search here, and we don’t email you about it.
You should know who wrote this and why any of it should carry weight.
Between us: over 25 years in business, more than ten industry awards, three offices at our peak, and clients ranging from one-van operations to the Fortune 100.
And one very public failure. Outstanding Branding was ours, and in October 2021 it went into voluntary liquidation. We had an offer to buy it and we turned it down, because we were certain the best was still to come. Certainty is not a forecast. That is ours to carry, it is a matter of public record, and we would rather you read it here than find it yourself.
It is also the reason this page tells you to spend nothing until you have used up the free wins. We know exactly what it feels like to be sold something you did not need.
A domain is one of three things that decide whether a stranger takes a chance on you. The free Visibility Checker does the other two — whether Google can find you, and whether anyone trusts what they see when it does.
